Greetings from Derek Tuesday, 29 August 2017

Dams filling nicely

View up the 2nd
A serious cold front has hit Southbroom and really the first real cold weather that we have had this winter. This cold front should move through by the weekend and we look forward to the Audi quattro Cup to be played on Saturday afternoon. It is fantastic to have Audi Centre Margate and Johan Kinsey Ahlers bringing the qualifying event to Southbroom. It is a Greensomes Stab event and the eventual Audi quattro winners will get to go to Mexico for the world finals.

Next week we are very proud to be hosting the 2017 KZN Amateur Championships and I look to seeing how some of the best amateurs in country perform around Southbroom. The course is closed on Wednesday and Thursday whilst the players qualify for the match play which ends on Sunday. There are a few member times available on the 10th tee on Friday, Saturday and Sunday but I would also encourage locals to come and watch some great golf.

We have organised reciprocity with San Lameer Wild Coast Port Shepstone & Margate for our members to play during next week and over our spring treatment closure, so phone us or come in to the Pro Shop to see your options.

Bernie Voster  striping a Titleist down a fairway while Ryan watches.
Ryan Birnie from Titleist was here on Wednesday with his demo clubs and a tracker, and what a great opportunity for members to try out some great clubs. The Titleist 917 driver and 3 wood are wonderful clubs and so easy to hit, and of course the Scotty Cameron putters are possibly the best you can get.
Justin Thomas won the PGA Championship with Titleist and we are sure to see much more of him.

top left Nesh Turanjanin was 1st in the 10km
special  mention for Zoe Englebrecht  4yrs old  and
Zack Wichman 5 years old

Brothers Stuart & Michael Omand finished first and 2nd
in the 5km  with Tim Hayter 3rd

THE FUN RUN was held under cool cloudy skies but when the all the participants arrived to start at 7am, so did a burst of colour, energy and great enthusiasm! Lovely to see the families enjoying and always good to see new faces enjoying the morning. Special Thannks to Don Osbourn for doing all the  expert record keeping and to Nick van Deventer for manning the welcome water table on the 6th hole!

Congratulations to Lizzie Currie who won the Cora Hicks Trophy on Wednesday.

 Well Done Lizzie Currie

At the core of any golf ball discussion
We don’t get asked as much as we should about your golf ball. It’s the piece of equipment you use the most.
And golf balls do feel and behave differently to each other. And the same golf ball will behave differently for different golfers.
Even lower priced golf balls behave very differently to each other. Your choice depends on your golf swing and which performance characteristic is most important to you.
When choosing one of Srixon’s 2-piece golf balls you’ll probably be interested in the fact that the Soft Feel has the lowest compression working for even the slower swing speeds. The AD333 utilises the Srixon Energetic Growth Gradient core that balances ball speed, trajectory, feel and spin for you. It might be a little firm for the slowest swing speed golfers.
Srixon AD333Tour
Moderate to quick swing
speed golfers, with a priority
on greenside control, in our
opinion, won’t get more
spin per rand than they will
with the AD333 Tour.
Srixon Z-Star
A premium golf ball with
a softer compression that
delivers distance and spin.
Of all the Srixon Tour
Balls, this one will have a
slightly higher trajectory,
softer feel and more spin.
Srixon Z-Star XV
Probably only for those with
more aggressive swings, generating
good ball speed on tee shots.
The trajectory and spin will ensure
a long ball flight. Retains exceptional
greenside control.

Rescue and recover a golfer
We need your help. Most of you will know an ex-golfer. Someone who fell out of love with the game.
Maybe it was a struggle, they were pressured for time, or family commitments made it difficult.
But in many cases they’ve gone over to the dark side.
So many who take up running or cycling move on to double marathons, extreme cycle races,
or, even worse, Iron Mans or Triathlons. But you can save them.
