Greetings from Derek Tuesday, 19 September 2017
Spring treatment went really well last week and the course should be wonderful for the upcoming Mixed Classic, over the weekend of the 14th & 15th October. We have had some heat and now a little rain. Just perfect.

Gavin Sole, our club manager, is off to Bryanston CC as the KZN captain for the SA Interprovincial. He should have quite some support there as half of Bryanston comes to Southbroom throughout the year and I expect to see KZN doing really well. Gavin has come into some form of late, and with his new Titleist driver he should see himself keeping up with the youngsters. We wish himself and his team the best of golf and a little luck.

 Ladies 1st
Sandy Luus, Jeanette  Peyios, Karin Asbock &  Mari Fielden

Sandy FitzGerald, Gavi Sole, Michelle Davies & Di Morris
Gavin decided it would be a good thing to play with the Ladies last Saturday, so he asked permission, deducted a shot from his handicap and all reported that they all had a most enjoyable afternoon. His Alliance team of Sandy Fitzgerald, Lady Captain Michelle Davies and Di Morris ended up finishing 2nd on 87 points, just 1 behind the winners Karen Asbock, Sandy Luus, Mari Fielden & Jeanette Peyios.

Mens Winners   Wed 13th Sept
Roel Germs Wins the Ind Stab  & Dave Fox wins the Ind Medal

Congratulations Bessie Germs on your 80th Birthday
pictured here with Grandson Dave Ireton
On Wednesday in our medal, the scoring was fantastic, despite the recently hollowtined and sanded greens.

Dave Fox won the Individual Medal on a count out from Colin McKay on net 66. Mike Lig finished 3rd with nett 67.
Winning the Individual Stableford was our amazing 87 year old Southbroom Legend, Roel Germs with 40 Stableford points. Roel thoroughly enjoyed his afternoon and edged out Olliver Ransome’s 39 points. Very good scoring indeed.

Speaking of the Germs…Hearty Congratulations to Bessie Germs who recently celebrated her 80th birthday milestone. The family arrived from all over the world to celebrate together. Very Special.

Mike Lig
Hole In One on the 11th

Mike Lig teed off on Thursday morning with Wolfgang Winterscheid and called the Pro shop a few hours later to report that he had just had a Hole-in-One on the 11th!

He pured a 6 iron straight at the flag and in it dropped. Congratulations Mike! Your first at Southbroom and  your 4th in your golfing career. How enjoyable! Well Done!

DJ,  Rob Smithyman, Adriaan Rabe &  Dalton Viviers
Earlier this week we hosted White River Country Club Golf Captain Adriaan Rabe & PGA Pro Dalton Viviers, who came to see what Southbroom is all about. They had a great few days and were very complimentary about the pro shop, the golf club, the golf course and the village.

Hopefully in the future we can organise some great golf at White River combined with a couple of Kruger Park days,
“Golf & Game”. Now there is a great combo!

Always good to see Rob Smithyman in town, Rob is a regular visitor to Southbroom and a White River CC member. He was able to join our 4 ball on Wednesday. It was a very enjoyable round.

New security cart, Nick has done a great job in re-furbishing one of the old pro shop carts, so that the club now has a roving Security/drinks cart. Thanks Nick, it looks great!

Speaking of carts, the new 2017/2018 black cart trail fee stickers are available for purchase in the club office.
Please collect yours from Sarah or Adri if you have paid your annual trail fee of R880.

Some of our Southbroom Ladies League players this year   Julie, Shirley, Irene, Janet Jeanette and Sandy
Southbroom ended up sharing the Trophy with Port Shepstone this year. Thanks to all the ladies who played league for Southbroom. Good Spirit and competitive Sundays.
Our Walk/Run on Sunday should be a super morning with a slight change to the course.  As it is low tide we are going to do a little more beach, and there will be  good firm sand to run / walk on. (If people are struggling they can always get off the beach at the earlier exit, so there is still something for everyone).

Come & enjoy the morning! The tasty bacon and egg roll at the end savoured on the patio, with the amazing view across the course, is always a most enjoyable end to the fun run!

Soup Sherry & Singing with Arina! Thurs 20 Sept 2017
Please note The initial idea Karaoke/ fines side of the evening has been cancelled and instead Thursday the 21st September is going to be a casual and relaxed musical evening, with Arina de Witt entertaining us whilst we enjoy our sherry and soup. She will play the piano and sing, and will take requests for your favourite songs.

It will be very homely and relaxed, and since Arina loves to have people sing with her, we may have an old-fashioned sing-along. However, no nominations and no fines – so relax and come and have fun with us.

Arina will also have a professional sound system and her usual back tracks so we can look forward to a wonderful musical performance in addition to the fun.

Please book at the club – R120 per person – see you there!

How many
Golfers do we
lose to work

Fortunately, people are much more aware of the need for an investment in their health. They’re going to the gym,
running on roads, riding on bikes. They’re even investing in ‘wearables’ to track their steps.
